Hockey Arenas and Sports Facilities
Energy Efficient Induction High Bay Lighting for Hockey and Other Sports Facilities
Most hockey arenas have 1000 watt high bay metal halide fixtures installed and there are a number of common issues associated with this technology. The light (lumens) depreciates rapidly so light levels, although adequate in the beginning, becomes dim and unacceptable and the light produced is rather yellow in color. Lamps and ballasts need frequent changes, an expensive task which requires renting bucket lifts and hiring electricians. Finally, these fixtures are not considered energy efficient, lamp and ballast consumes an incredible 1150 watts of electricity to produce light.
So what is the best choice for energy efficient lighting in hockey arenas and sports facilities? Induction lighting is the logical choice for a variety of reasons:
Low Cost: Compared to LED lighting, Global Induction Lights generally cost 50% less than comparable LED fixtures.

Huge Energy Savings: Global lights will save more than 60% on electricity costs compared to metal halide lights, a very important consideration as electricity costs continue to rise rapidly.
Eliminates Maintenance Costs: Metal halide fixtures would require 5 or 6 lamp and ballast replacements compared to none for Global induction fixtures during their 100,000 hour lifetime.
Long Life: Global fixtures are rated to last an incredible 100,000 hours, the longest life of any energy efficient commercial lighting fixture, much longer than LED or ordinary florescent technology.
Better Light Output: Global induction lights have consistent bright white light output over a long period of time compared to metal halide technology.
Instant On/Restrike: Global induction lights require no warm up time like metal halide lights which eliminates the need to turn lights on 20 minutes in advance of games and have no humming or buzzing noise.
HVAC Savings: Global induction lights operate at a much cooler temperature of about 140 degrees compared to metal halide which can reach temperatures of 1600-2000 degrees which means less work for the rinks cooling equipment.
Product Selection: In addition to highbays, Global induction lights come in a wide range of fixture types, lamp color temperatures and wattages from 40-400 watts for most applications. Fixtures include wall packs, flood lights and highbays to name a few examples.
Better Color Rendering: Colors are brighter and more vivid, subtle color differences are more apparent with Global induction lights.
Environmental Considerations: Mercury is harmful for the environment and unlike metal halide lamps which contain liquid mercury; Global induction lamps contain no harmful liquid mercury. Global induction lights also last for 100,000 hours and are recyclable which results in significantly less waste in our landfills.
Considering everything, Global induction lights are the right energy efficient lighting choice for hockey arena and other sports facilities.
